Nikos Economopoulos

Reporter Magnum

was born in Greece. He studied law in Parma and began to work as a journalist. In 1998 he started working as a professional photographer, devoting himself to photo reportage in Greece and Turkey. He joined Magnum in 1990. His photographs are published on newspapers and magazines all over the world. He won the Mother Jones Award (san Francisco, CA) with a project about the Balkans. His book The Balkans was published in 1995 in New York City (Abrams) and in Athens. In the Nineties he started a project about border areas, mass migrations from Kosovo and ethnical minorities in Rome. In the year 2000 he received an assignment from the Aegean University of Athens for a book about Greek island life. His long-term project about Turkey was awarded with the Abdi Ipektsi Award (2001) for peace and brotherhood between the two populations. Nowadays, he organizes workshops around the world.
